Gemotions

The old pocket watch gleamed under the harsh fluorescent lights of the antique shop. My father, his face etched with a familiar weariness, was haggling with the proprietor. I leaned against the doorframe, watching them, feeling the cold seep through my thin jacket. The shop smelled of dust and forgotten things, a smell that usually comforted me but today only amplified my exhaustion. Each breath felt like a monumental effort. The watch, a symbol of my grandfather's unwavering reliability, seemed to mock my own depleted reserves. I fought a sudden, overwhelming desire to simply collapse.
